Twin Lakes is on the edge of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. These two areas are amongst the best in the world for activities such as fishing, climbing, mountain biking and water sports, all of which are readily available. In addition there are a multitude of independent activities within ten minutes of Twin Lakes.
Walking and Sightseeing
The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are a walkers paradise. You can explore the beautiful mountains, lakes and moorlands or choose to meander through forests and country lanes before stopping for lunch at a quaint village pub.
The breathtakingly beautiful area of Langdale runs west of Ambleside up to the Langdale Pikes and is well worth exploring. You can walk for miles in the Yorkshire Dales and enjoy spectacular views that stimulate the spirit and nourish the soul.
Twin Lakes is stocked with a variety of fish including Carp, Pike and Perch. Fishing is an exciting and relaxing sport for all the family to enjoy. While fishing you can enjoy the views, sound and scents of the surrounding woodlands which are home to a variety of wildlife. You will need a current rod fishing license as well as your own fishing equipment.
Holmescales Equestrian Centre offers horse riding to the Lake District, Kendal & Cumbria areas. Holmescales’ horse riding also includes trekking and hacking tuition, a service which they are able to offer to people of all ages who are visiting the Lake District. Holmscales, have horses to suit all; from novice to experienced rider, age 4 and above.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
The Crabtree family have been running Crabtree Clay Shoot for a number of years. They made the move to diversify their scenic farm land in the southern Lake District and began a friendly shoot with only one automatic trap, two traditional manual traps and a whole lot of enthusiasm. Now, Crabtree Clay Shoot has over 50 automatic traps and plenty of guns for hire.
The surrounding scenery may be breathtaking, but the course is special too. The course is beautiful, the quality of their greens exceptional, and the changing character of each hole ensures you have an interesting and enjoyable round. Whilst there are opportunities for birdies, there are also challenging holes, and this is why the course appeals to golfers of all ages and abilities.
If you are looking to take up archery as a sport, or you are an existing club archer you will find all the equipment to hand. If it’s a one off session you want, they can offer a 60 minute session on the target range or 90 minutes on their woodland ranges. Northern Archery is run by experienced archers.
With over 100 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates, the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is a unique and exciting blend of wildlife and interactive hands-on displays.The zoo is home to lush indoor tropical halls, walkthrough enclosures and picturesque outdoor spaces – making the zoo great fun no matter the weather.
This is a real hands-on experience, loved by children and adults alike. Don’t worry if it’s raining there’s lots undercover too and plenty of free parking. You can meet their animals – including pygmy goats, Kune-Kune Pigs, reptiles, bunnies and guinea pigs, plus lots lots more. You can have a donkey ride, feed the lambs, play on the tractors and new go-karts, and wander down the paddocks.
